At the recent Reigate Business Guild meeting, our local MP Rebecca Paul was asked what she would change if she had a magic wand for businesses in Reigate and beyond.
Her answer was clear: “For small businesses, I would wave a magic wand and address energy costs.”
She went on to highlight the importance of reviewing the UK’s energy mix to ensure businesses have both affordable and sustainable energy options in the future.
Why energy costs matter so much
For many SMEs, energy is one of the top three business expenses. Rising and unpredictable costs can put real strain on cash flow, making it harder to plan, grow, or even keep the doors open. Beyond costs, navigating contracts, tariffs, and metering can often feel unnecessarily complex and time consuming.
Rebecca’s comments resonated deeply with me because this is exactly where my work comes in.
My work in the energy space
During the meeting, Spencer Copping kindly acknowledged my recent award wins through my work as an AQA-trained utilities consultant and introducer with Full Power Utilities Ltd Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting more than 70 commercial clients across Surrey and beyond, including nearly 30 businesses in Reigate and Redhill.
That local impact is something I’m particularly proud of. From hospitality venues and high street shops to charities and churches, I’ve helped businesses to with the following!
- Audit and understand their energy use.
- Secure competitive contracts tailored to their needs.
- Navigate tenancy changes, landlord arrangements, and council agreements.
- Save thousands of pounds on their bills while freeing up time to focus on running their business.
No magic wand, but practical support can feel like magic!
While none of us has a magic wand, I believe that partnerships, expertise, and transparency can make a real difference. By bridging the gap between business owners and the commercial energy market, I aim to simplify what often feels overwhelming and provide practical, sustainable solutions.
The Guild meeting was a timely reminder of how important it is for us, as a business community, to keep raising these issues. Energy costs aren’t just numbers on a bill, they’re a factor that can shape the success and resilience of our high streets, our SMEs, and our local economy.
