As the roar of engines echoes from Goodwood’s Festival of Speed this past weekend, and Formula 1 keeps millions glued to their screens, it’s worth remembering that British motoring has deep roots, and some of them run through the grounds of Salomons Estate in Tunbridge Wells, one of my clients in the heart of the Kent countryside.
Once home to Sir David Lionel Salomons, a pioneering force in UK motoring history, this stunning 36 acre Victorian estate is more than a picturesque getaway. It’s a key part of the legacy that helped bring the motor car to Britain. From organising the country’s first motor show in 1895 to designing some of the earliest “motor houses”, or as we now know them as, garages, Sir David’s influence continues to inspire.
Today, Salomons Estate is not just a retreat for history lovers (it has it’s own museum), it’s also a working estate with offices, accommodation, a theatre, and cottages. It is a popular wedding and events venue, and welcomes visitors year round. All this being said, it also has complex energy and utility needs, and that’s where I come in.
Through Full Power Utilities, I’ve had the privilege of supporting Salomons as they get set up with a dedicated corporate account manager, offering full account management across their energy and water services. Large estates like this often juggle multiple buildings, seasonal demands, and heritage preservation requirements, all while trying to keep costs down and sustainability goals in focus.
Whether it’s historic venues, multi-site operations, or unique properties with fascinating backstories, my role is to simplify the process, audit usage, and make sure every kilowatt and drop of water is working as hard as it can.
Salomons is a brilliant example of heritage meeting modernity! Not just in the lovingly restored cottages and Gatehouse, the museum, or even the historic theatre, but in the way it runs behind the scenes.
If you manage a historic venue, large estate, or multi-site operation and want to simplify your energy and water management, I’d love to have a conversation. Helping places like Salomons Estate thrive behind the scenes is what I do best and I’m always open to seeing where I can add value.
